What we do

This page explains the activities and competitive opportunities that a junior golfer has at Bramshaw. It also records notable successes that the Club and its individual young golfers have achieved in recent times. In order to aid the development of the young golfer we have a full programme of opportunities for the beginner and the established junior to play in, both within the Club and against other local clubs:

Within Bramshaw Golf Club

  • Junior Competitions : At least 35 per annum for our more experienced junior members with CONGU handicaps and a further 20 'shortcourse' competitions per annum for our younger less experienced golfers (with Club handicaps up to 54). A significant number of our junior competitions are  played for trophies and all have prizes (or prize-money vouchers) awarded. Winners are invited to a Presentation evening in December each year, where parents and friends can recognise the young golfers achievements. We also run a Junior Order of Merit with points awarded for places in major competitions and a Younger Junior Order of Merit for our shortcourse programme golfers .
  • Integration with Men’s/Ladies/Seniors Sections :  A number of Club competitions/matches are designed to encourage junior/adult integration and to enable the young golfer to learn valuable skills (and the adults to admire the swings of the youngsters!)
  • We have a Summer League for our Junior Members which provides an ideal opportunity to meet fellow young golfers while playing in a structured but informal competitive environment on a weekly basis when the summer light conditions permit.
  • Short-course competitions: For our younger and less experienced golfers we have 9-hole competitions played from 'blue' tees over a shortened course and in 2011 we introduced a 'Young Junior' Order of Merit as well. This is an ideal way to keep youngsters motivated and enthused while they learn the game, helping to provide a smooth transition from Academy to established junior golfer status. Parents are actively encouraged to walk round, caddy and support their children during these events. A member of the Junior Committee also attends these events to encourage and support the young golfers.
  • Coaching Charter: For our more committed young golfers we have  a limited number of places for our ' Free & Matching Coaching/Development Plan' package, which provides subsidised coaching in return for commitment to play in a number of competitions, skills challenges etc and also take part in a Rules session and some fund-raising activities for the Captains' Charities.
  • Tri-golf sessions: For the real beginner, an introduction to golf that is lots of fun for the young (and old!). Our Professional Team already go into local schools with Tri-golf equipment to support the school curriculum and take golf out to the wider community.

We have tremendous support from the Adult Members for the Junior Section and we do our best to fully integrate the junior members into the Club by organising competitions where the young golfers play with and against the more senior golfers in the Club. We have introduced Adult & Junior Team events, plus we open the golfing season with a Juniors vs Staff match (inc. green-keepers, management, catering staff, Professionals etc).

We continue to strive to be one of the most 'family-friendly' golf clubs in the South of England!!
